MULTIMEDIA UNIVERSITY (MMU) STUDENTS TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE OF THEIR LIFE TIME


Cyberjaya, 4 October 2011 - From the 26 to the 30 of September 2011, six Multimedia University (MMU) students, from the Cyberjaya campus took on the challenge of their lifetime by joining the 2011 Shell FuelSave College Competition organised by Shell. The goal of the competition is to research, plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive public relation campaign for Shell FuelSave Day in Malaysia.

These students called themselves the Shell Creative Gems. They have organised a booth from the 26 -30 September 2011 at Central Plaza, Multimedia University based on the new gaming technology by Microsoft, the Kinect, which is a controller-free gaming and entertainment experience. The reason is to attract and educate MMU members on fuel efficiency as well as recruiting interested MMU members to join the Shell FuelSave Day training in a fun and engaging manner. They have been working on the campaign since 22 August 2011 and at the moment focusing on the major event on 15 October 2011, the Shell FuelSave Day.

The Shell FuelSave Day training is an attempt by Shell to show motorists how they can save fuel and save cost just by choosing the right fuel and making a few simple changes to their driving habits. 10 countries such as Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey and the United Kingdom will participate in the Global Shell FuelSave Day simultaneously in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Fuel Efficiency Lesson' ever.

The Shell Creative Gems consists of 6 students from Faculty of Creative Multimedia who are currently studying in their 1st and final year degree program. They work collaboratively under the supervision of an advisor of Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya.

Genom Melayu, Saintis UiTM Setanding Negara Maju


Pada 27 Disember lalu, Timbalan Perdana Menteri, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin telah melancarkan Jaringan Kerjasama Rakan Kongsi BioNexus (BNP) dan Pengumuman Penyempurnaan Pemetaan Genom Melayu anjuran bersama Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) dan Perbadanan Bioteknologi Malaysia (BiotechCorp) di Dewan Kuliah 500, UiTM Puncak Alam, Selangor.


Timbalan Perdana Menteri berkata, “Saya merasa bangga kerana aktiviti penyelidikan yang dijalankan di Pusat Farmakogenomik (PROMISE) telah menampakkan hasil kejayaan. Kejayaan pemetaan genom individu digelar Genom Melayu telah berjaya dilaksanakan oleh para saintis di UiTM. Ini adalah selari dengan usaha negara-negara maju di Asia dan Eropah yang sedang giat menjana maklumat mengenai genom rakyat mereka sendiri agar dapat diguna untuk membangun strategi kesihatan yang paling sesuai untuk penduduk setempat”.


Kejayaan ini adalah hasil sokongan kerajaan kepada usaha-usaha memperkuatkan sektor termaju Bioinformatics dan pembiayaan projek-projek genom seperti Projek 25 Genom Malaysia, Projek Genom Manusia Kerdil dan Projek Genom Kelapa Sawit. 

Program-program ini menjadi penanda aras keupayaan saintis Malaysia di persada sains dan teknologi antarabangsa dan penglibatan UiTM merupakan sesuatu yang harus dibanggakan.

Naib Canselor UiTM, YBhg. Dato' Prof Ir Dr Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar turut merakamkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada penyelidik UiTM kerana berjaya menyempurnakan pemetaan genom etnik Melayu serta mewujudkan pangkalan data yang berguna bagi penyelidik-penyelidik yang lain memulakan penyelidikan mereka dalam mereka bentuk ubat-ubatan, pembangunan dan pengkomersilan.

Pada masa sama, satu pertukaran perjanjian (MOA) juga disaksikan di antara UiTM dan SNAA Medic Sdn Bhd sebagai tanda setuju untuk mengkomersilkan dua ujian farmatogenik yang dibangunkan di PROMISE.

Kini UiTM menempatkan tiga unit makmal BNP, terdiri daripada Unit Analitikal (AU) yang mengendalikan sistem kromotografi untuk pelajar farmaseutikal, Whole Genome Sequencing Unit dan Integrated Systematic Biology Unityang berada di bawah PROMISE yang pengkhususan dalam penjujukan genom dan spektrometri jisim.

Kejayaan ini menandakan keupayaan UiTM menyediakan prasarana bertaraf antarabangsa sejajar dengan hasrat kerajaan dalam membangunkan modal insan bumiputera yang mampu bersaing di arena global.

SUDAN IKTIRAF KEPAKARAN TEKNOLOGI IPv6 USM

PULAU PINANG, 21 Dis. – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)sekali lagi mendapat perhatian antarabangsa apabila Kementerian Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi Sudan mengiktiraf USM secara rasmi sebagai perunding dan melatih kakitangan profesional Sudan bagi menguasai teknologi IPv6 di sana.
Pengiktirafan itu telah membawa kepada pembangunan secara komprehensif buat negara tersebut  melalui program latihan iaitu Certified Network Engineer in IPv6 (CNE6) bagi melatih, membimbing dan mengesahkan peserta yang terlibat sebelum layak menerajui bidang teknologi ini di Sudan.
Menurut Prof. Sureswaran Ramadass, Pengarah Pusat IPv6 Termaju Negara (NAv6), Kementerian Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi Sudan telah menghantar 9 orang peserta daripada pelbagai bidang profesional untuk menghadiri latihan profesional CNE6 di NAV6 pada Mac lalu.
“Para peserta Sudan yang dihantar ke sini telah berjaya melalui fasa latihan yang kita tetapkan dan juga berjaya melalui latihan khas untuk menjadi tenaga pengajar di sana kelak,” katanya ketika majlis tele-sidang khas dari Sudan sempena majlis penyampaian sijil tamat latihan CNE6 Fasa pertama di IPv6 Authorised Training Centre (ATC) Sudan.
Tambahnya lagi, pihaknya amat berpuas hati dan berbangga pencapaian yang ditunjukkan para peserta negara itu kerana selepas pulang mereka telah menarik perhatian bermula seramai 15 orang peserta hingga kini mencecah 350 orang dalam masa singkat untuk menjalani latihan CNE6.

Pada majlis yang sama, Dr. Izzelden Kamil, Ketua Pengarah Pusat Latihan Negara Sudan yang juga mewakili Menteri Teknologi Maklumat dan Komunikasi Sudan melalui tele-sidang USM-SUDAN berkata, kerajaan Sudan amat menghargai tunjuk ajar yang diberikan dan sedia bekerjasama dengan USM dalam apa jua bidang kepakaran demi pembangunan ICT di Sudan.
“Kita telah mempunyai tenaga pakar yang dilatih oleh pihak USM dan kami di sini telah mengorak langkah untuk membangunkan teknologi ICT di Sudan ke arah lebih maju dan sekaligus membawa era baru buat Sudan dalam dunia komunikasi teknologi maklumat.”
Selain itu, Sureswaran turut memaklumkan bahawa teknologi IPv6 ini telah mendapat perhatian oleh kerajaan India untuk sedia bekerjasama menerima latihan tersebut pada tahun hadapan.
Teknologi IPv6 yang telah dibangunkan oleh NAV6 dibawah Prof. Sureswaran Ramadass sejak tahun 2007 telah mendapat perhatian beberapa negara termasuk China, Singapura, Thailand dan beberapa lagi negara Asean.
Produk inovatif ini yang dinamakan Crystalview HD9100, merupakan teknologi tele-sidang yang berupaya menghubungkan manusia di seluruh dunia melalui perkongsian data dan maklumat tanpa had di samping dapat bersidang secara maya serentak seluruh dunia serta dibawakan dalam bentuk resolusi gambar dan bunyi definisi tinggi (HD).

Yakin IT and UTM agree to coorporate

Bangi, 28 June: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Yakin IT Sdn. Bhd. signed a Letter of Cooperation (LoC) to establish partnership and cooperation between both institutions in areas of mutual interest.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang said, various potential areas of cooperation between Yakin IT and UTM were identified with UTM providing expert advice in related areas of cooperation.

He said, among the cooperation established is authentication solution for birds’ nests where Yakin IT contributes an information solution that uses traceability information to determine the genuineness of a bird nest, while UTM contributes sample-based authentication solutions that determine with certainty the origin of a bird nest.

Also included is cooperation in the area of Halal authenticity where Yakin IT contributes an information solution that uses traceability information to determine adherence to Halal standard(s) while UTM contributes sample-based methods to determine Halal relevant parameters.

“Cooperation in the area of transformation management was also established  where Yakin IT contributes information management solutions for the management of transformational projects while UTM delivers the transformation methodologies, procedures and processes and certain standard to assess ideas and projects.
“Another significant input by UTM is in wireless communications, specifically in (a) animal identification and life cycle management, (b) sensor networks and internet access in remote areas and (c) RFID-enabled Halal logistics,” he said.

Both parties may enter into separate LoCs, as necessary, to facilitate the said collaborative activities. Under this LoC, collaborative activities of both will be undertaken within the limits of available resources of both parties.

AIMST Produces Quality ICT Graduates

THREE to four decades ago, nobody could have imagined that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) would bring tremendous changes to our lives.
ICT is vital in many sectors such as banking and commerce, marketing, health care services, communications, entertainment, transportation, natural resources management, waste management, robotics and manufacturing and space exploration.
AIMST's degree programmes in Computer Science and Information Technology are designed to meet the challenges in the current ICT trend.
